My Book Reviews - 2011

Here is a list of books that I have read since January 2011.

They will be listen by their name, amount of stars (out of 5) and a little description of what I thought of them. They are in order from most recent.

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask me.

LET'S HEAR WHAT YOU THOUGHT

Shadow Days: A Nightshade Novella - Book 0.5

Andrea Cremer

4 Stars - 1 Hour to read

The first Novella from Andrea Cremer. It is pretty much a short prequel to Nightshade. It is in the perspective of Shay. His uncle Bosque decided that he will move and live in Rowan Estate. Shay has no choice but to comply. When he says goodbye to his friends, his one friend decides to make him a Facebook page to keep in touch. Shay wasn't one for Social Media, but went along with it anyway. After living in the empty estate was bigger than any building he had ever seen, he started waking up at night scared half to death. He decided to do some research on what was scaring him by taking videos and pictures of the weird looking statues all over the place, only every time he videotaped the demon-looking statues, his camera would go fuzzy and blur the image. His friends from Facebook help him figure out what was going on. The one rule his uncle gave him was to not venture into the library. But to figure out what was going on in the house, Shay decided to hell with it and went inside anyway. He started doing some research and sends out some of the books for help. After he was done for one day he decided to go for a hike and ends up face to face with a bear... and then that is where Nightshade begins. Love it!

Nightshade - Book 1

Andrea Cremer

5 Stars - 4 Days to read

My boyfriend bought me this book for Christmas. It looked amazing. When I opened it I realized that it truly was such a great book! I couldn't believe how awesome this book was. A wolf woman has to choose between her arranged marriage or a stranger. Great love story. The only bad thing was how it ended on a cliff hanger!! Can't wait for the next book! LOVE IT!

Wolfsbane - Book 2

Andrea Cremer

2 Stars - 3 Days to read

I will go ahead and say that this book was a massive disappointment. I completely fell in love with the first book in this trilogy; Nightshade. To read this after it was a complete shock. I don't even know how they even let this be published. Don't get me wrong, it was well written and I was compelled to keep reading, but nothing happened. Just as soon as they were getting to the good part, the book ended. They stretched out this book to make it into a trilogy which was a wrong move. I felt like I was five chapters into a new book and then it suddenly ends. They shouldn't have made this book so short and uneventful. The majority of this book was Searcher history. Yawn. Whatever. I must wait for the third one now. Ugh.

Bloodrose - Book 3

Andrea Cremer

3 Stars - 9 Days to read

I absolutely loved this book. Ok, well not absolutely because I wanted to cry at one part but other than that it was really good. I won’t say which team I was rooting for (Team Ren or Team Shay) but let me just say that my team lost and I am pissed. Haha whatever.

It begins right where the second book left off. Ren is with the Searchers now and part of the team to get all the artifacts to create the sword that the Scion (Shay) was supposed to be used to kill Bosch, his uncle who he had no idea in the beginning was an evil being. They basically go through a few more tests to retrieve all the artifacts and that’s it. They use it to kill Bosch but then there is one shocking decision in the end to be made. Read it to find out.

I am pretty sure they could have made the second book and this one into one book, but that’s just my opinion. Other than that, the series was good and I was glad that I read it. I would recommend it but I wouldn’t speak too highly of it. It’s up to you! Book 1 was amazing!

Aftermath - Book 3.5

Andrea Cremer

3 Stars - 10 Minutes to read

This little novella was alright. I don't know what I expected going in since I read this series so long ago. I was a little bit confused by the characters, but it didn't really matter. I figured it out by the end.

Adne and Connor are basically together and after the war they were surveying the damage. Things were stolen and Ethan had captured one of the two thieves. One stole books and the other stole a wooden box with certain old magic artifacts in it. They came to the conclusion that Logan was trying to bring back his ancestors magic. They couldn't allow that to happen.

The ending was pretty interesting as well, which makes me think that their might be another book. Who knows!

Beautiful Creatures - Book 1

Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

4 Stars - 8 Days to read

This book was such a page turner! I didn't have much time to read but when I did read, I couldn't put the book down. It draws you in and you want to find out what happens next. Some things were predictable though. It dragged on! It ended off as a cliff hanger so I have to read the second book now. Other than that, the characters were pretty cool as well :)

Beautiful Darkness - Book 2

Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

3.5 Stars - 6 Days

So this book was pretty good. I just wanted to figure out how it would end. There were some pretty exciting parts and I pictured the entire thing in my mind. Great visual book. It could have been shorter though. Very Repetitive!!! I hated the ending! Another cliffhanger. It is alright. I will wait patiently for the next book to come out, which I will purchase ! :)

Dream Dark - Book 2.5

Psyche in a Dress

Francesca Lia Block

5 Stars - 2 Hours to read

This was a book I bought for the fun of it. It was written unlike any other book I read. It was weird and different. I absolutely loved it. The events that happened were rather sexual but not offensive. It would be good if you had a good knowledge of the Greek Gods before you read it. It's ok if you don't. I found I was not able to put it down once I started reading. I loved how once there was a new character there was a short chapter about their life before they met Psyche. It was sad at some parts, but that's life. I would read this book again. Definite recommend.

Sarah's Key

Tatiana De Rosnay

5 Stars - 3 Days to read

I knew this was going to be a great book just from the first chapter. It moves from regular date to 1942. It is in the perspective of an older woman whose family is somehow tied with a little girl who was captured in the Jewish roundup of the Holocaust. The real term was the roundup Vel’ d’Hiv. I almost cried with every chapter I read. I would definitely recommend this book. It gives you an insight on things people like to forget. Great book!

Eternal Flame - Book 0.5

Alyson Noel

To Be Read - Don't Own

Evermore - Book 1

Alyson Noel

4 Stars - 1 Day to read

This book was surprisingly good. I was so into it since I couldn't figure out what the main character was. I knew he wasn't a vampire but I needed to keep reading to find out what he was. The main character, Ever, complains a lot, but I didn't m ind. I was anxious to find out more. Time to read the second one now!

Blue Moon - Book 2

Alyson Noel

5 Stars - 1 Day to read

This book was incredible!! I couldn't put it down. I needed to know how it would end. I felt so bad for Ever. Everyone around was brainwashed by the new character. I could never imagine seeing my love in the arms of another. Ouch! This book was way better than the first one. It reeled me in and now I have to read the third one. Shadowland here I come!

Shadowland - Book 3

Alyson Noel

5 Stars - 4 Days to read

I was hooked once again. What can I say? This woman knows how to keep her readers entertained. I love the whole past life lovers thing with the new character - Jude. I am getting a little annoyed that the main characters can't get it on yet! There are two more books and I don't think I can wait until the fifth for them to sleep together. We'll see what happens for now. Overall, great book! Need to buy the next one still!

Dark Flame - Book 4

Alyson Noel

3 Stars - 6 Days to read

I started this book after about 5 years in between book 3. I waited a long time because I got side tracked and there were so many other books out there waiting for me to read them. I noticed that I gave the previous three books 5 stars, but this book was not up to par with the rest of them. Maybe I was too nice back then as well. This one deserves at best just a three.

It begins with Ever trying to explain to her best friend Haven that she turned her into an Immortal. Haven was so happy. Some other stuff happened that I don't remember because it tied in with the previous three books that I just can't seem to recall in my brain. Ever and Damon can't touch or else Damon will die. Roman put a spell on them and only he has the antidote. Ever's demon inside of her yearns for Roman and she almost lost her virginity to him before she realized what she was doing. She needed to clean her soul if she wanted to move ahead in life. She was addicted to magik and needed to clean her chakras. She didn't want to let Damon know her problems so she confided in Jude instead. Jude was apparently a human who has been in love with Ever since the beginning of time but always loses to Damon. He learns this and accepts it. Poor guy. Ever's best friend Haven is in love with Roman and is convinced Ever is trying to steal him from her.

That's the jist of it. It felt like A LOT was being repeated over and over again. Ever going to Roman's house. Ever not wanting to entrust Damon. Etc etc. I guess I might as well read the rest to see how this love story ends. Here I go...

The Lucky One

Nicholas Sparks

4 Stars - 4 Days to read

Another beautiful Love story. Nicholas Sparks has a talent in bringing you so close with the characters, it is as if you know them deeply. You become part of their little family. I found myself eager to find out what the outcome of the book would be. Loved the ending. It was sweet and worth the read :)

3 Stars - 6 Days to read

Not my favourite. It’s changed the whole ‘turning vampire’ process. I don’t know if I liked that too much. The thought and concept was all there. There were interesting scenarios, and I liked the way she had her own little thoughts added in there. It was kind of childish. But she is 16 years old, so I guess I shouldn't complain. It took me so long to read because I wasn't drawn to figure out what happens next. I bought the box set, so onto number two now!

Betrayed - Book 2

P.C Cast + Kristin
Cast

3.5 Stars - 2 Days to read

Way better than the first one. I was so interested in what was going to happen in this book! I love the added lust in this one. Blood. Sex. Magic. Seriously! Dark doesn't always mean evil and light doesn't always mean good. Damn straight! I wish I had an affinity with the elements. So cool! Can't wait to read the next one!

Chosen - Book 3

P.C Cast + Kristin
Cast

3.5 Stars - 2 Days to read

This one was pretty interesting. It can get a little bit repetitive. Zoey cries and complains about her three boyfriends and her friends a lot. The full moon rituals are repetitive, but at least they were always different. I got really pulled into this book! I loved the lust in these stories but I hated how it ended in heart break. Read to find out more. Off to the next one!

Untamed - Book 4

P.C Cast + Kristin
Cast

3.5 Stars - 4 Days to read

This one had to be the best out of the four. Zoey Redbird has changed. She went from a complaining, confused fledgling to a determined high priestess. She was more put together this book and when things turned out to be getting better, they only get worse! I kind of don't like the fact that she falls in love with every single guy around her - that's not gay. Can't wait to read the next ones.

Hunted - Book 5

P.C Cast + Kristin
Cast

3 Stars - 5 Days to read

Not quite sure what to say. This book could have..um...it was just a splurge of what we already knew. Yes, her friends are behind her. Yes, the dark angel has risen, and, yes, we know she has boy issues. I don't think I can read one more sentence of her debating who she loves more. It's getting annoying now. On to the next book. I have to. I already bought it. Ha!

Tempted - Book 6

P.C Cast + Kristin
Cast

3.5 Stars - 4 Days to read

So. Over. It! Okay. I can't keep repeating myself because then I will be doing exactly what the books are doing. They should have killed Kalona a long time ago and made Neferet the new villain. I can't stand this anymore. Make a new villain! I don't care! Just anything besides the same. The ending of this book, though, was pretty darn good. Finally! Something good to work with! It happens in like the last 3 pages. Whatever. Let's find out what happens next...

Burned - Book 7

P.C Cast + Kristin
Cast

4 Stars - 3 Days to read

Okay, where to begin? I would have to say this is the best book so far (only the way it was written, not the content). I am still MAJORLY annoyed at the length these books go through and I want it to be OVER, but this book was well written. It was filled with lots of emotions. I think she should have killed Kalona and got it over with and left Neferet for the last book, but that’s just me. I need to finish the last book so I can be over and done with the House of Night once and for all!

Awakened - Book 8

P.C Cast + Kristin
Cast

4 Stars - 5 Days to read

Well done. This book was actually very entertaining. Now this one is the best book. It would have been nice if this was the last one, but I have a feeling there will be at least 5 more books in this series. With the way they write...I wouldn't be surprised if they write 10 more books.. with the same villains! HA! Content was good. I am over the repetitiveness. Whatever. I have to wait for the next book to come out now. That's all.

The Host

Stephanie Meyer

4 Stars - 8 Days to read

It started off slow and I wasn't really interested to read more until a few chapters in. It does get more exciting so no worries. I don't really know what to say that wont ruin it.

The book is about a girl named Melanie who gets her mind taken over by an alien. They are taken over the world one person at a time. Even though her mind has been taken over, she is still in there and she leads the 'alien invader' to her safe house where the rest of the humans are residing in hiding from having their mind controlled. They are upset at her at first for leading the 'alien' there, but the one invading in Melanie's mind is a good 'alien' and wants to help them. Some accept her and others don't. They need to figure out a way to capture humans that had their minds controlled and remove the 'alien.' That is their goal. That is the jist of it.
This book showed how you could be loved, even if you were an outcast. They say there is a love triangle in this book, but I see it more of a square. Read to find out what I mean.

The movie was amazing. Not as good as the book and many, many things were cut out and different but I think I watched the movie about fifteen times. I cried. Even though they weren't the same, the movie was still amazing and I would watch it fifteen more times over!

Wideacre

Phillippa Gregory

4 Stars - 12 Days to read

There is so much to say about this book. I was shocked more than once. The whole incest thing was a bit weird, but it only added to the suspense of the story. I wish they elaborated more on the ending, but I think it was perfectly written. I thought this was going to be a boring 1700’s story, but it was the farthest from that. You end up becoming a part of the plot and you’re not sure who to sympathize with. Beatrice only wanted the best for her children and wanted to give them the land, but everything backfires on her. Her whole life was surrounded by Widacre that she was blinded by everything and realized it too late. She murdered, hurt, stole, betrayed, and lied her way… all the way to the bottom.

Game of Thrones - Book 1

George R.R. Martin

4 Stars - 24 Days to read

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to start the next one. The only thing is that this book took up way too much of my time. I don’t know if I have all of a sudden become a slow reader, but if any book takes over 15 days to read, there must be a problem. Almost a month it took me! Unbelievable! I am ashamed with myself. There were many characters but they were easily distinguishable. I loved every moment of reading. Daenerys was my favourite. Loved the knights, the war, the blood and the lust. Will take a break until the next one though.
I read in occurrence to the series on TV:
Episode 1: Pages 0 - 108
Episode 2&3: Pages 109 - 236
Episode 4: Pages 237 - 304
Episode 5: Pages 305 - 384
Episode 6: Pages 385 - 500
Episode 7: Pages 501 - 594
Episode 8: Pages 595 - 674
Episode 9: Pages 675 - 728
Episode 10: Pages 729 - 807

A Clash of Kings - Book 2

George R.R. Martin

3 Stars - 29 Days to read

I can't believe I have finally finished this book. It felt so much longer than the first one. I did, however, put it down many, many times. At some parts I just couldn't get into the flow of things and wasn't really bothered to find out what would happen next. If this wasn't a TV series, I probably wouldn't have finished, but I wanted to watch the episodes so I continued reading. I knew there is something about these books that everyone loved and I knew the TV series would cut some stuff out.

This book was basically about the Renly and Stannis wanting to take over King's Landing. It was mostly fighting and taking out castles and being captured and the such. I don't want to say what happens because I don't want to give anything away. If you read the first one, then you obviously have to read this one because I am pretty sure you will read the next one.

All I have to say is.... GO KHALESSI! I love Danaerys! :)

A Storm of Swords - Book 3

George R.R. Martin

4 Stars - 23 Days to read

This book was amazing. Another too long story for my liking but amazing regardless! This was much better than book two. So much happened in this book that I can't even begin to describe it. The author did a great job pulling us into his world of dragons, knights, killings, kings and plain ol' whores. I loved it! I can't wait to read the next one.

A Feast For Crows - Book 4

George R.R. Martin

3 Stars - 14 Days to read

I can see why people gave this book such little stars. I would have been pissed too if I bought this book when it came out, only to realize that the next one would come out in a year and this was all I got. A lot happened in this book, but not what we were expecting. There were no Dragons or John snow. Those are the two most important characters in this whole series (to me at least) and to keep them out of this entire book (except there was one chapter of John in the beginning) was just crazy. I needed more of Khalessi. I flipped through each of the chapters and did not see her name once. I was so upset.

Other than that, it was an alright book. It kept my attention. But now I am ready to start the next one to journey with the Mother of Dragons!

A Dance with Dragons - Book 5

George R.R. Martin

4 Stars - 36 Days to read

I read this book as slowly as I could. It took me so long to finish because I did not want it to end. I squeezed what I could out of it since I knew there was not another book that I could read after. I am heartbroken.

I need more of Khalessi! And John Snow! What the heck happened!?!!?

Definite recommendation! AND THE SHOW IS AWESOME AS WELL!!

Shiver - Book 1

Maggie Stiefvater

5 Stars - 5 Days to read

What a wonderful story. As soon as I read the first short chapter I was hooked. I love how this author writes. This story is about a girl who is in love with a wolf. A werewolf, but there are no moons involved. The wolves are human during summer and wolves during winter. Their winters are counted though until one year they stay a wold forever. Grace tries to find a way to stay with the wolf/boy that she has loved since she was little. How to keep a boy from changing back into a wolf? Read to find out. It is a very sad story and I found myself tearing up at some points. Read to enjoy!

Linger - Book 2

Maggie Stiefvater

4 Stars - 8 Days to read

I wanted to say that I really love these books. The first one was better than this one though. I felt like this book was a little bit too long when we all knew what was going to happen. I love the introduction of the new wolf Cole St. Clare. I really like him. Other then that, nothing caught my attention of this book. The separation of Grace and Sam was sad. Their whole relationship is sad. I can't wait to read the third and last book to find out how it ends!

Forever - Book 3

Maggie Stiefvater

4 Stars - 7 Days to read

As I said in the last review I wrote in Linger; Shiver was the best. They could have gotten away with just the one book, or at least 2 better written books. I liked Forever but I think it was a bit too long. I liked the relationship complications between Isabel and Cole. I wish Grace and Sam were more passionate with each other but I can see why the writer didn't write it that way. Their relationship wasn't based on words or actions. I was waiting for the end of Shelby and I wish the writer wrote Shelby’s demise better. The ending was left open. Way open! I wish I knew how it ended. Was Grace cured? Did Cole and Isabel end up together? So many questions. A fourth book? Who knows!

Sinner - Book 4

Maggie Stiefvater

To Be Read - Don't Own

The Glass Castle

Jeanette Walls

4 Stars - 4 Days to read

Let me start off by saying WOW. This memoir was amazing. Well written to say the least.

The perspective of the book starts off from Jeanette(the author), as a grown woman who sees her mom scrimmaging through trash. As many times as she tries to help her mom; the mom doesn't believe that being homeless is a bad thing. It then goes into detail of Jeanette’s upbringing. Jeanette makes you believe that her and her family were going on adventures when moving from house to house. They were homeless their entire life. When reading, you kind of get the feeling that being homeless wasn't so bad when they were young. Their homeless condition doesn't differ as they get older. But Jeanette's perspective does. Having no home was fun when she was young because they would visit so many different places but then when she grows up she realizes the hardships of wearing clean clothes, having enough to eat or even being warm at night. Sleeping in a cardboard box was fun when she was five, but the older she got, the more she realized living homeless was not fun anymore. She had an older sister Lori who knew all along that their lives turned for the worst from the first moment she could speak. She had a younger brother Brian who always kept his head up and followed Jeanette’s lead in their hunts and games and was always there to protect Jeanette and vice versa. They had a younger sister who was born into poverty and had to resort to making pretend friends. These kids used to idolize their father. He promised a Glass Castle but never fell through. He couldn't keep a job and had no money to support his family. He was a drunk and would disappear for days at a time near the end. Jeanette’s best friend was her dad, but near the end of the book, she didn't even know who he was anymore. Jeanette grew up and learned the responsibility of saving her own money to get out of the life she was living. She moved and got her own place and job.

I don’t want to ruin it all the events even though I kind of did. I would definitely recommend this book. It is very insightful to a life of homeless people and how they can easily turn things around if they really tried. Some people though choose to be homeless.

Kiss Me Deadly - Book 2

4 Stars - 1 Day to read

(I just realized this is a second book to a series. I totally missed the first book)

I read this book a while ago on my iPod and don't really remember what I felt. It was a free eBook so I thought 'why not?' It is about a vampire, Nicholas Drake, who intends on killing a witch named Raven Cross. The witches and vampires were at war and he was out of commission for a while because Raven spilled her blood/spit on him when they faced off together. When that happens, normally vampires die, but not Nicholas. Nicholas survives and was donned the strongest vampire ever who could now walk in the sun thanks to surviving the witch’s wrath. When Nicholas gets to Ravens house to kill her, he breaks her door down causing her to fall backwards against her fridge. Raven was working on a love potion for a client and it spilled all over her head and mouth, seeping into her skin. For the kill, Nicholas bites Raven and ingests whatever love potion for into her system. He automatically falls head over heels for her and the thought of killing her repulsed him. Raven didn't want anything to do with him. She hated him. They end up together (sexually) only to be tricked by Him (Lucifer). I will probably read the next book to find out what happens.

I’m going to have to say this book was actually pretty good. It started off well, got a little bit slow in the middle but I kept reading because I wanted to know who the killer was. I wanted to find out what was going to happen to Agent Reece and Nathan as well. I enjoyed this book because there was no damsel in distress and - Brianna - the mail character knew how to take care of herself without the help of a man. I found myself smiling at the part where Brianna makes Nathan feel embarrassed! Ha! The story line was well written and I was glued to the pages when an exciting part came up. Definite page turner! The only bad thing about this story was the amount of grammatical mistakes it had. I started correcting them but eventually it became too much to handle. It made me pretty nervous to see such simple mistakes but I looked past them. Overall, a very good book with exciting events. Read for yourself to find out.

Silesia: The Outworlder

S.K. Valenzuela

3+ Stars - 3 Days to read

I give this book a 3+ star. When I first started reading this book I was a bit confused as to what was going on. Was she in a boat? Shackled? How did she get out of her cage so easily? Found out it wasn't a boat. An airplane? Not even. She was in a spaceship..? Is she an alien from outer space? The author could have changed the word ‘ship’ with ‘shuttle’ or ‘spaceship’ because every time I read the word ship, I thought of a boat sailing. Whatever. After crashing and being the only survivor, Sahara sets out for her life. She is found by Jared and he nurses her back to health. Sahara is a convict with an attitude that will bite your head off. She wouldn't let anything that upset her slide. She didn't act like the normal calm women if the town. She liked picking fights and showing how strong willed she was. That was cool. I was a bit taken back when all if a sudden she wanted to act like a woman. The change happened so suddenly and it wasn't even explained why she wanted to change. But it happened nonetheless.

This book was very descriptive; I liked that, but there were some things I just couldn't picture. I imagined they lived in stone buildings in the middle of the dessert. Then I find out that they are taking a boat down the river. I don’t know. It’s just me.

Something didn't sit with me. When they walked their way to save Sahara, it took them a few hours including sleep time - to get to her but they needed a spaceship to get them back. All the spaceship needed to do was hiccup its way back. Yet the ride seemed longer than normal – twenty minutes to be exact.

Even though some things didn’t sit well with me, I still liked the story. I liked how Jared wasn’t sure if he loved Sahara or not. The struggle seemed real and falling in love that easy is sometimes cheesy. I found myself pulled into the story when Jared went to save Sahara. I was so happy and felt his relief and joy when he saw her for the first time. The ending was left off as a cliffhanger. I will definitely read the next book to find out what happened to everyone!

State of Wonder

3 Stars - 10 Days to read

I was going to give this book 2 stars but decided against it and gave it 3. Let me tell you. This was a very boring book. Absolutely nothing happened in it. The main character, Melanie, goes to the Amazon after receiving a letter from her previous mentor, Dr. Annik Swenson, saying that her coworker, Anders Eckman, who was currently in the Amazon has died. Melanie is so upset and when she tells Anders' wife that he is dead she doesn't believe Melanie and asks her to find out what happened since Dr. Swenson said that they buried him in the Amazon.

Melanie, after days of struggling, finds her mentor Dr. Swenson and helps out in the study of the Lakshi people who eat a special bark right off the tree and can have kids until they are on their dying bed. By eating the bark it also gives them immunity to malaria. Melanie finds out that Dr. Swenson is pregnant and delivers her baby for her. It is pretty much the same thing over and over again. Malaria, bark, mushrooms, babies, Lakshi people. I don't know. I need excitement in my books and this just didn't do it for me. I will give the author credit and say that it was written beautifully and that I could picture myself in their boat as they rowed through the Amazon, but other than that the book was dull.

I didn't like the ending either. I won't spoil it but giving up people in return for other people doesn’t go well for me and the sex scene turned me off as well. The whole action didn't turn me off; it was the people who were doing it. I would say, read it to find out, but I wouldn't want to bore you. That's all.

The moment I started this book I could tell it was going to be good.

Rebecca McKenney, a mourning mother, had never given up even three years after her daughter had been kidnapped. After a surprise vision showing her daughter was still alive brought back hope that she could find her for good this time. With the investigated help of Dan Cooper they set out to find Sabrina. The book was well written. I liked the Twilight reference. I found myself smiling at that. But, unfortunately, I felt that the most important part was rushed. The confrontation was written like the author was so excited that she quickly wrote it all down. I had to go back and re-read a couple sentences since it seemed like I missed some parts. They were mentioned so quickly. If the confrontation part was re-written to make it longer, it would be much better. I really enjoyed the ending. Throughout the book whenever I read parts about Rebecca talking about Sabrina I got the goosebumps. It is very rare for a book to do that to me.

“Damn you,” Rebecca shouted. “You have no idea. You don’t have a gaping hole in your heart, or wake up crying every night hugging a damn pillow instead of your child.”

My favourite line. I was going to give this book 3+ stars, but the ending made up for the fast pace confrontation scene. Well done.

Let me start off by saying that I think I actually feel smarter after reading this book. I am so used to the pre-teen books that are such an easy read that I actually forgot what an intellectual book was like.

The author has compiled a bunch of his favourite short stories that he has written and published them into a book. None are alike the other. I love how informant the author can be. He really brings you into the dark depth of these people’s minds. It’s weird how the author can almost make you feel and think like the person you are reading about. Pretty cool! This is not my normal genre but I’ll definitely pick up another on the same lines. Thanks for opening me up to it. Just when the stories get good, they end, leaving you wanting more. Isn't that what a good shirt story I'd all about? Ha! It took me so long to read because there was no plot that pulled me in. When I had free time, I read. Which wasn’t that often. I didn’t feel the need to bring this book with me everywhere. I knew when I got home it would be there waiting for me.

P. S. The author us a huge Simpsons fan. He made three references to the show. Homer and his donuts in hell. Up and atom. And the darting of the eyes. Lol. Overall good book.

Okay. Where to begin? This book was too long. I found myself bored at the beginning and middle of the book. I expected more from Kate, but that's alright. It took me so long to read since I didn't bother to pick it up. Nothing pulled me. The book was filled with unneeded filler. It pulls you into the characters lives, but a bit too much! Loved the characters though! I loved the secret affair. That was fun. The ending was amazing as well. It is an overall sad book. Read if you must, but don't say I was the one to recommend it. That's all.

The Distant Hours

Kate Morton

3.5 Stars - 18 Days to read

I wasn't sure whether I wanted to give this book 3.5 stars or 4 stars. I was torn.

This book was about a young Edith Burchill who found out that her mother had a secret past and lived in a castle at Midlehurt when she was younger. Three sisters lived there; Persephonie (Percy), Serafine (Saffy) and Juniper. The two oldest twin sisters dedicated their life to protecting their younger sister who experienced a traumatic experience when she was younger that she had never recovered from. Percy, the eldest, kept her secret until the end when she told Edith what truly happened.

The book was beautifully written and the build up was wonderful. I loved learning about The Mud Man and the Blythe sisters but... I don't know. I'm not sure if there was too much information it in or just the fact the end was prolonged. The last chapter of the book was so sought after that I felt a little disappointed at the simple ending it had. It seemed reasonable enough but I needed more than that. Either way, I still loved it since Kate Morton wrote it and I love all her stories. The read was enjoyable and I could easily get lost in her incredibly descriptive scenarios, but there was never an urgency to pick up the book and that is why it took me so long to read.

The Iron King - Book 1

Julie Kagawa

3.5 Stars - 18 Days to read

I think I was so excited to read this book that I got to carried away and thought it was going to be fantastically amazing. I started reading and was hooked with it.

It is about a young girl named Meaghan Chase who learns that she is part fairy and there is another land full of faries and piskies and such. Her good friend Robin Goodfellow, also known as Puck, helps her search for her brother after he is kidnapped. The story was very interesting but some parts confused me and wasn’t described properly. I found myself going back a few times. For example, she would say she walked through a hollow cave, but then said that she saw something move behind a tree. It was small things but still bothered me. It was unpredictable and I really enjoyed one of the main characters; Ash. He promised to help Meaghan find her brother if she returned to his kingdom with her. Meaghan was wanted throughout Nevernever since all fairies loved leverage. Their promises and deals were what made them who they are. One a deal or promise was made, it could never be broken or changed.

That was another thing I loved – the bargaining. I always wondered what would be given up next in order for Meaghan to find her brother. I would recommend this book. On to the next one now!

Winters Passage - Book 1.5

4 Stars - 1 Day to read

This novella is just as good as any other novella. It was a decent enough length that kept my attention the entire time I read it.

It pretty much depicts the short journey Meghan Chase goes through after reuniting with her family. Ash comes back for her. He didn't have to remind her that they had made a deal. He had offered to air her to find and save her brother Ethan and in return she traded in her freedom. His mother, Queen Mab at the Unseelie Court wanted her as leverage over her nemesis Oberon at the Summer Court - also known as Meghan's father. After being hunted the entire book, they finally make it in one piece to Tir Na Nog. Meghan is torn with her feelings for Ash since she knows that he likes her but his loyalty will always be with his queen. He would not hesitate if the queen said to kill Meghan. But she didn't want to believe that. In Nevernever you had to be strong or else you got taken advantage of. Weakness was not taken lightly. Ash had to keep up his stone hard appearance to show he didn't care for Meghan or else anyone could use it against him - including his brothers and even his mother, Queen Mab.

The Iron Daughter - Book 2

4 Stars - 3 Days to read

Wow. Where to begin? A lot happened in this book.

The Scepter of Seasons has been stolen. For six months out of the year it stays in the summer court and the other half of the year it stays in the winter court. The Winter Queen blames King Oberon at Summer Court for stealing it. A battle is declared against the Summer Court. But the Summer Kingdom doesn’t have it. It is up go Meghan Chase to saunter back into the Iron Kingdom to get it back. Virus, who was second in command to the now deceased Iron King, tries to take over. But turns out her iron glamour is nothing compared to Meghan’s. Throughout this book, Meghan realizes that she has faint iron glamour yet she is not sure where it comes from. Meghan is also torn between her love for Ash and her love for Puck. Read to find out how Meghan plans to retrieve the Scepter of Seasons and who she picks to love in the end.

I loved the twists and turns of this story. Everything is fitting together so perfectly. The author clearly has an overly creative imagination to come up with all the characters of this story. There are less confusing parts in this book than there was in the first one. I could actually picture everything I was reading with go read-overs. On to the next one!

The Iron Queen - Book 3

Julie Kagawa

5 Stars - 4 Days to read

I understand now why everyone is so in love with these books. I know now, because you can add my name to the list. I don’t know how she does it, but Julie Kagawa had me hooked throughout the entire book.

This book begins with Ash and Meghan, both whom are exiled from the Nevernever. Content with being with each other decide to figure things out slowly. But of course, trouble always follows Meghan. When she decides to go back to her home, she is greeted by Iron Fey who seek to bring her to the new Iron King. After defeating them, Meghan and Ash realize that even though they are banished, they still have a duty to fulfill. The false Iron King is after Meghan. He wants her powers that she had stolen from the previous Iron King, Machina. Ash decides it is a good idea to teach Meghan how to fight since he cant protect every second of her life. Meghan is more than willing to learn. The battle between the Iron Kingdom and the Faerie kingdom is a big one. I normally hate when authors fly through the most exciting parts but that is not what Julie did. She wrote out every detail of the battle and I wished I could read faster since I didn’t want to skip any detail but I wanted to know the outcome. I wont lie… my heart broke at the ending and I was sad but some things were for the best. I cant wait to read the next book to find out how it all turns out. Also, the last book is in Ash’s point of view! Here I go!

Summer Crossing - Book 3.5

4 Stars - 30 Minutes to read

A short ebook in-between the Iron Queen and The Iron Knight. This book is from Robin Good fellow, also known as, Puck’s point of view.

Just before Ash and Puck set out to find Grimalkin to ask him how to get Meghan back, they run into a little problem. Leanansidhe appears and tells Ash that he owes her a favour which is true. Turns out the Summer Queen, Titana has stolen a violin from The Queen of Exiles, Leanansidhe . It is up to Puck to disguise Ash to sneak him into the Summer Court to get it back. It was Puck’s decision to help Ash out, even though Puck knew deep down inside that without Ash in the picture, he could have Meghan. But after thinking about it, Puck realized that all he wanted was for Meghan to be happy. It didn’t matter who she ended up with. He also knew that Ash was happiest with Meghan and likewise. He knew he could never tear them apart.

I love Puck’s little tricks. He is so funny. I also enjoy the love-hate relationship with Puck and Ash. Ash had vowed to kill Puck one day but he knows deep down inside he could never. Read to find out how they get Leanansidhe’s violin back.

Ash's Letter to Meghan - Book 3.6

Julie Kagawa
5 Stars - 2 Minutes to read

Ugh, can this letter get any more sweet? I had the goose bumps reading this. A letter from Ash to Meghan that Ash hopes never has to get to her. He basically spills his undying love for her which is the cutest thing in the world. I wish my boyfriend would write me a letter like that. Ha! Who am I kidding? So for now, I will just cross out Meghan’s name and fill in my own. Now, that’s better!

The Iron Knight - Book 4

4 Stars - 5 Days to read

This book just did not do it for me. The others were great but this one was lacking what the other books had.

It starts off with Puck and Ash on a guest to find the end of the world so that Ash could become human and be with Queen Meghan in the Iron Kingdom. It lacked something. I don’t know what. Ash and Puck are joined by Grimalkin and the big bad Wolf. Ariella joins them as well. (I hope I didn’t spoil anything) Ash is so struck by the fact that she was alive this entire time. I felt his pain and all but at least he knew that he wanted Meghan and no longer was in love with Ariella. I kind of wished she put up more of a fight and didn’t give him up that easily, but that is just the way I wanted it. The way to the end of the world was dull. There was danger and excitement but I didn’t find myself eager to pick up the book. That’s why it took me so long to read. The majority of the book was the journey there. *Yawn* The one part I liked the most was when the Guardian made Ash experience all the soulless actions he had done in his past. He made women fall in love with him only to tear out there hearts. He killed innocent people just to amuse his queen and butchered civilians because others had beet their lives. That was probably the best part. The reunion with Meghan was alright.

Other than that, it was okay. I would normally give it 3+ stars but I liked after when the book was done, the author wrote a little guide book in entering the Nevernever which was pretty funny and she also wrote Q/A’s and there were special guests who helped her answer the questions. Yup, that’s all. Done with the Nevernever.
